For my second leg of my trip in Ile de la Réunion, I was looking for a hotel on the west side of the island. Most hotels are located in this part of the island, so it is the most vibrant area with a lot of stuff to do. I stayed in the brand new Ness by D-Ocean. Let’s discover how I liked my stay.
Location and arrival
Ness by D-Ocean is located in La Saline-les-Bains, on the westcoast of La Réunion. It only recently opened during the beginning of 2019, so everything is still brand new! There are 84 rooms and suites in total in this U-shaped building.
Upon arrival can park your car on-site. The entry of the building is very nicely decorated with a large hanging garden above the main door. Then you enter the lobby where you’ll find the reception area. Check-in was nice and smooth and we were given a welcome drink and a nice refreshing towel.
The location of Ness Hotel is perfect, it’s only a short beach walk away from other beach bars. Stores, markets and restaurants are all nearby and the buzzing town of Ermitage-Les-Bains is only a 5-minute car ride away.
The Junior Suite in Ness Hotel
I stayed in the Junior Suite, which is actually more like the size of an appartment. It has a fully-equipped kitchen area, a large living room with desk space, sofa and flatscreen TV, and also a bedroom with bathroom adjacent. In the bedroom you’ll find another large TV. The Junior Suite is west-oriented, which means it overlooks the garden, beach and ocean lagoon and offers amazing sunset views from the 17sqm large balcony. I really liked the modern, white interior with wooden elements, however for some it might look a bit too ‘clean’.
The garden
Surrounded by lush palm trees, Ness by D-Ocean features an infinity-edged pool measuring a whopping 100 square metres. My favorite places to hang out were the Coconut Grove Restaurant and the sand bar. Both are located in the garden between the pool and the beach. By using oldskool American trailers, they were able to create this Miami summer vibe. At Coconut Grove, you can have lunch or enjoy dinner when the sun sets. At the Sand Bar, you can have a seat in one of the beach sofas and enjoy a selection of cocktails and drinks, reflecting on an exciting day in paradise! I think this is a very cool idea, although I wished they used one of the trailers as an ice cream truck. 😉
All in all I genuinely enjoyed my stay at Ness by D-Ocean. Given there are 84 rooms, it is never too crowded in the hotel, there’s always room at the pool or in one of the bar chairs. For a relaxing stay, Ness Hotel is perfect, although it is also conveniently located in the proximity of bars, restaurants and attractions.
