During our last visit to Prague my girlfriend and I stayed at the Boscolo hotel. Boscolo is a small Italian 5-star hotel chain, with hotels in Prague, Budapest, Nice, Rome, Venice and Milan. Having previously resided in Boscolo Exedra Nice and Boscolo Budapest, I had no doubt the hotel in Prague would be of the same superb quality.
Boscolo Prague is part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection. The building has a neo-renaissance façade and was originally home to the Czech Savings and Loan Bank., you can still see an inscription on the exterior.
Upon arrival we were greeted by Boscolo employees on the hotel’s majestic entrance staircase. They led us to the impressive lobby for our check-in. The check-in process is quite original. Instead of having to stand at the front desk, you get to sit down in comfy fauteuils while everything is taken care of. To make us feel at ease during the check-in process, we were brought a few delicious cakes. The front desk clerk also did the effort of making dinner reservations for the night, so we didn’t have to worry ourselves.
The room
The lobby and hallway gave away our room would be equally impressive, but that couldn’t prevent us from being amazed when we first saw it. We were staying in an ‘exclusive room’, a huge room with a historical feel due to the hardwood floors and high ceilings. Undoubtedly one of the best rooms we’d ever slept in. The drapes, the warm beige on the walls and the wooden furniture made the room extra romantic. The bed featured an original headboard dating from the early 19th century. And of course, do I still need to say it, the room featured a marble bathroom, because what other materials would they possibly use, right?
The restaurant
While a trendy bar at night, the New York Café serves breakfast from 6:30 in the morning. And after getting up way too early to go see the Charles Bridge, we actually did show up first at the buffet. Would you like some coffee, tea, or one of the fresh fruit juice options, or perhaps some sparkling wine with your breakfast? It’s all there. The buffet has a large variety of choices (lots of fruits, yay!), and is conveniently located in the middle of the room.
We had dinner a few times in the hotel’s Saloon restaurant and I recommend you do too. It’s never crowded and there’s enough space in between tables. On our last Saturday, there was a live piano player who made the dinner extra special.
The spa
After spending a whole day of walking in the busy city, it was rewarding to get back to our hotel and the relaxing spa area to give our body (mainly feet :p) some rest. Unfortunately I haven’t tried one of the massages the wellness was offering, but the spa had enough to offer: sauna, steam bath, whirlpool and a huge pool where you can swim between the pillars of the building, very cool!
Spending our days in the comfort of Boscolo Prague was a great experience. I can honestly say this is one of the most beautiful and most luxurious hotels in Prague, and would recommend it to anyone. If we’re ever back in Prague, we will most definitely stay here again. And if my travels lead me to Italy, I might be able to continue my quest of trying out the remaining 3 hotels of the luxurious hotel chain, in Rome, Venice & Milan.
